These terms govern your use of Sustainable Crafting. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them.

About this service
Sustainable Crafting is a research project website produced and managed by the University of Brighton, funded by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council under grant OPP080. It gives artisans a place to document their craft, record their story, and publish both with content credentials that record how the material was made.
Your account
You must provide accurate registration details and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for what happens through your account, so tell us promptly if you think someone else has gained access to it. You must be 18 or over to create an account, or have the involvement of a parent or guardian.
Your content stays yours
You keep ownership of everything you upload: your photographs, your videos, your recordings, your written answers and your craft records. By publishing material on the site you grant the University of Brighton a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty free licence to store, reproduce, translate, adapt for captions and subtitles, and display that material, for the purpose of operating and presenting this website and describing the research project. This licence exists so that we can host your work, generate captions and assemble your story film. It ends for future use when you unpublish or delete the material, although we cannot recall copies that other people have already taken. You confirm that you have the right to publish what you upload, that it is your own work or that you have permission to use it, and that anyone identifiable in a photograph or a recording has agreed to appear.
Publishing and consent
Material stays unpublished until you choose to publish it. When you publish a story, that story and its film become visible to anyone who visits the site, including your name, your recordings and any location you chose to share. You can unpublish at any time.
Acceptable use
Do not use this site to publish material that is unlawful, that misleads people about the origin of a craft, that is abusive, or that infringes anyone else’s rights. Do not try to gain unauthorised access to the site, to other accounts or to the systems behind it. Do not use automated means to extract material from the site at scale. We may remove material or suspend an account that breaches these terms.
Content credentials
The site signs media with C2PA content credentials and issues verifiable credentials for craft records. These record what was created on this site and by which account, and they let anyone check that a file has not been altered since it was signed. They are not an independent verification that your description is true. We do not inspect or certify claims about materials, technique, origin or age.
Availability
This is a research project and the site is provided as it is. We cannot promise uninterrupted availability, and features may change or be withdrawn as the research continues. Please keep your own copies of anything that matters to you.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Subject to that, the University of Brighton is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profit or opportunity, or for the loss of material of which you did not keep your own copy.
Ending your use of the site
You can stop using the site and delete your account at any time. Deleting your artisan profile deletes the crafts and the story attached to it. We may suspend or end access where these terms are breached.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the project develops. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
